Quarry House

Bardsey, West Yorkshire

Private Client

Quarry House is a modern stone home tucked into the secluded hills of West Yorkshire, where light, space, and family living exist side by side, in perfect harmony. The client, having previously worked with Studio H on Quarry Pool & Spa, asked us to transform the living space, which originally felt dark, dated, and disconnected from the garden and other open plan elements of the house. The brief was to create a bright, homely space that could be enjoyed by the whole family, with pet-friendly finishes and thoughtful spatial planning.

We approached the project holistically, combining interior design, interior architecture, and lighting. Key elements include a large modular contemporary sofa with washable upholstery and bespoke cushions, tailored drapery, open and concealed shelving, and feature a media wall anchored around a new, elegant ribbon fire. Architectural intervention introduced a new oak-framed box window projecting outward into the garden - the exterior structure being in Corten steel. This addition brings natural light into a darker area of the room while at the same time framing views to the garden. The reconfigured chimney breast with recessed TV integrates seamlessly with ribbon fire below, both create a central focal point when seated in the room.

Lighting was key to creating mood and atmosphere. A shallow coffered ceiling frames the perimeter of the room hosting dimmable strip lighting. Complementing this, strategically placed LED downlighting with separate floor and table lamps are switched via smart lighting control to create the perfect ambience for whatever the occasion. The result is a relaxed, functional, yet stylish family space where the benefits of our unique holistic approach are evident to see.
