The Story
Behind the Studio
We’re Kelvin and Helen Hall, founders and lead creatives of Studio H.
We first met as undergraduates studying architecture and interior design in the 1980s - a time when the music was unforgettable and the fashion… let’s just say adventurous. Since then, we’ve been partners in both life and design.
Decades of experience have shaped our craft and sharpened our approach, balancing creativity with practicality, intuition with expertise. Design isn’t just what we do - it’s how we see the world, and how we help others shape theirs.
Kelvin Hall
Drawing on extensive experience in architecture and lighting, Kelvin has developed a deep understanding of how light shapes space, creates atmosphere and influences human emotion. His mastery - combined with an intuitive command of form, texture, and colour - forms the basis for delivering projects that are both atmospheric and highly functional.
Kelvin studied Architecture at the Polytechnic of North London before beginning his career at Chapman Taylor Partners, the globally recognised architectural practice known for large-scale international projects. What began as a foundation in architecture quickly evolved into a lifelong fascination with the transformative power of light and its ability to elevate space.
As Co-Founder at Studio H, Kelvin thoughtfully balances creativity with technical precision, ensuring each project not only enhances the environment but also creates a meaningful and lasting impact on how people experience space, whether for private clients, commercial enterprises, or bespoke architectural projects.
“Light is never just functional. It’s about shaping what matters - creating atmosphere, evoking emotion, and bringing a space to life.”
Helen Hall
With more than three decades of experience, Helen has an inherent ability to quickly reimagine and maximise the potential of interior space. Her extensive knowledge of furnishings, fixtures and finishes - sourced from a wide range of global suppliers - underpins Helen’s reputation for crafting interiors that are beautifully made, unique, and timeless.
Helen studied interior design at the Polytechnic of North London before beginning her career at a well-respected London design studio, where she worked on high-end residential and luxury hotel projects. Over the years, her portfolio has grown to include the world-famous Cliveden House Hotel and the Royal Warrant-holding Hebridean Princess, chartered twice by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
As Co-Founder at Studio H, Helen works closely with private homeowners, architects, hoteliers, and enlightened developers throughout Yorkshire and beyond. Her approach balances function with personality, resulting in environments that genuinely reflect the character and aspirations of those she designs for.
“Every project is a conversation. The more I understand the people behind it, the more honestly the space can reflect who they are.”
