Art Historian’s Home

Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire

Private Client

Located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Art Historian’s Home is a large suburban residence transformed through a full interior design, interior architecture, and lighting design renovation. Our client, a renowned art historian, engaged Studio H’s expertise before purchasing the property to ensure it could accommodate his extraordinary collection of books, artwork, and furniture. What began as a comprehensive remodelling evolved into a full project management commission, guiding every stage from concept through to completion, and has since developed into a long-standing, valued friendship built on a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, detail and timeless design.

We redesigned the home from the inside out, crafting bespoke English oak joinery for the library and American walnut elements throughout the property to honour its original character. Murano chandeliers, Fortuny pendants and silk damask drapery bring texture and elegance, while curated furnishings and a hand-painted Renaissance-inspired ceiling mural reflect the client’s personal narrative. Every decision was informed by careful consideration of spatial flow, materiality and light, ensuring the interiors feel both luxurious and effortlessly lived-in.

A new Vale conservatory opens onto the garden, where our exterior lighting scheme extends the enjoyment of the landscape into the evening. Discover more about The Italian Garden. The project was featured in the nationally renowned publication 25 Beautiful Homes for its considered design, expert detailing and seamless integration of interiors, architecture and lighting.
